Tolunay-Wong Engineers, Inc. offers a full suite of testing, analysis, and consulting services for driven pile installations. We provide expert deep foundation / construction consultancy for major oil and gas companies, nationally renowned contractors and other geotechnical engineering firms.

Our engineers are qualified and experienced in designing the most appropriate and cost-effective pile foundation system utilizing both the more traditional methods of inspection and new technology for a project. TWE has experience working with piling contractors and monitoring pile installation using the Pile Driving AnalyzerTM (PDA) in conjunction with the Case Pile Wave Analysis Program (CAPWAP) to evaluate static axialpile capacity and integrity. We specialize in providing complete driven pile deep foundation testing programs for projects of any scope and foundation type.

TWE also provides wave equation analysis (with GRLWEAP) to provide driveability studies, constructability analyses, and inspector charts to engineers and contractors in an effort to select the most efficient hammer systems and ensure proper driven pile installations.

DEEP FOUNDATIONS TESTING PORTFOLIO

U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MARAD) Layberth- Vidor, Texas

The MARAD Beaumont Layberth Facility will consist of north and south basins which are separated into berths. Each berth includes both landside and marine structures. The new South Pier structure will include approximately 34, 24-in square, solid, precast, prestressed concrete piles. The new North Pier structure will include approximately 46, 24-in square, solid, precast, prestressed concrete piles. A total of 15 breasting dolphin structures will be installed for Berth Nos. 1 through 4 consisting of three (3) 66” x 120’ post tension concrete cylinder piles and 3 24” x 130’ 2:1 batter piles per breasting dolphin. 24” piles are driven with an APE-D80 OED hammer in order to provide capacities up to 1,700-kips. 66” cylinder piles are driven with an APE-D160 OED hammer in order to provide capacities up to 2,800-kips in compression and 1,900-kips in tension.

Testing in accordance with the Standard Test Method for High-Strain Dynamic Testing of Deep Foundations (ASTM D4945) developed by ASTM International. Tolunay-Wong Engineers, Inc. (TWE) uses this test method along with equipment and procedures developed by Pile Dynamics, Inc.© and GRL Engineers, Inc.© to provide quality high-strain dynamic testing and analysis services.

I-10 Widening Project – Highland Road to Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Bridge replacement over the KCS Railroad and the widening of an existing bridge structure over the Wards Creek Diversion Canal. Also included widening of a segment of Interstate 10 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes. TWE designed new pavement section for the project and new foundations to support the bridge structures. Provided foundation installation monitoring and testing services. Foundations included 72″ dia. X 85 ft deep straight-sided drilled shafts and driven precast concrete piles.

Cheniere Energy – Sabine Pass LNG, Cameron Parish, Louisiana

The Cheniere Energy SPLNG Facility will consist of four (4) LNG compression trains. Approximately 32,000 Square precast, prestressed concrete piles have been selected as deep foundation support for Trains 1 through 4 as well as the marine Roll on Roll off (RORO) Bridge and marine dock structures.

Services Provided: High-Strain Dynamic Testing, Static Pile Load Testing and Construction Materials Testing. Technicians performed up to 3 dynamic tests per shift using PBI PAX equipment.

Mariner South Project Lone Star NGL Fractionator, LLC Mont Belvieu, Texas

i. TWE performed Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing services for the proposed facilities to be constructed at the Mariner South project which include towers, a compressor, pipe racks, and other equipment. Services included performing field exploration, laboratory tests, and conducting geotechnical studies to provide recommendations for site preparation, earthwork, and foundation support.
