Tolunay-Wong Engineers provides on-site monitoring and quality assurance/quality control services as well as field and laboratory testing services. Projects of all types are tested for compliance with specifications and are verified to ensure against potential material failures. TWE works closely with each project team assisting them to complete the project within scope, budget and timeframe.

TWE operates construction materials testing (CMT) laboratories capable of performing in-house or on-site testing and monitoring services. Our engineers and engineering technicians provide professional advice based on their advanced knowledge of the properties and composition of the different materials used in construction.

TWE’s CMT Division produces thousands of individual reports annually for various laboratory tests and field inspection of construction materials. Most of these involve concrete, aggregates, soils in-place, and bituminous materials. Also, we regularly test brick, granite, stone masonry, mortar, and manufactured elements, such as prestressed beams and precast panels.

Engineering consultation and inspection services are available for each phase of a project’s construction including design, materials selection, laboratory testing, specification review and construction monitoring.

American Tire Distributors Warehouse Ft. Worth, Texas

TWE performed construction materials testing and inspection services for the construction of a 250,000 sq. ft warehouse for American Tire Distributors in Fort Worth, TX. Services include: earthwork (moisture conditioning & lime stabilization), concrete testing (drilled piers, floor slabs, tilt-walls, and paving), and structural inspections (reinforcing, welded, and bolted connections).

John D. Parker East Texas State Fish Hatchery Jasper County, Texas

TWE performed Construction Materials Testing services for the construction of a new fish hatchery consisting of a new corporate Texas Parks and Wildlife administration building and 36 new fish hatchery ponds capable of stocking all state of Texas fisheries for Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Praxair Hydrogen Facility -Port Arthur, Texas – S&B Engineers and Constructors

Provided both Geotechnical and Construction Materials support.

Full Time QC personnel onsite familiar with Industrial Construction to perform Construction Materials Testing and liaison between construction team and Geotechnical Engineers for soil conditions that extended into the OSBL sites.

Completed turnover packages both onsite and at our Beaumont facility providing a complete record of all inspections and tests performed.

Services included: deep foundations monitoring and testing; soil stabilization monitoring and testing; soil compaction inspection and testing; concrete placement inspection and testing; cementitious and epoxy grout testing.

Sprouts Farmers Market McKinney, Texas

TWE performed Construction Materials Testing services for the construction of 50,000 sq ft tilt wall grocery store Sprouts farmer’s market and shell retail buildings. Contractor: Ridgemont Commercial Contractors.

Sasol Chemicals USA Westlake, LA, Calcasieu Parish (Lake Charles)

The Sasol Lake Charles Chemical complex has 7 manufacturing units situated on approximately 400 acres. It is the largest petro-chemical project currently under construction in the United States. The two main contractors performing the site works have approximately 2000 employees working on the project.
TWE currently staffs anywhere from 10 to 18 on-site technicians daily performing soils, concrete and grout testing services for several clients. The project anticipates approximately nine million cubic yards of fill to be placed while placing more than 400,000 CY of concrete. Our technicians and management have shown leadership in partnership with Cajun Constructors, Primoris Services, Group Contractors, Performance Contractors, Fluor/Technip and Sasol directly to provide the high quality and safe working conditions that TWE strives for.

A.D. Players

The A.D. Players, a Houston-based Christian theater company, expect to open the Jeannette & L.M.
George Theater at 5420 Westheimer Road in February. The nearly 35,000 sq. ft. theater cost around $18 million to build, dwarfing its previous theater inside the Loop. Tolunay-Wong Engineers, Inc. (TWE) is proud to have been a part of the newly constructed A.D. Players Theater Complex in Houston, Texas. This new construction consisted of a two story, 32,760 sq. ft. performing arts venue with an eight foot orchestra pit and 80 foot high fly loft rising above the stage, along with an attached four story, 128,000 sq. ft. “open” parking garage. TWE provided geotechnical studies and construction materials testing services which included observing proof roll operations on subgrade; field density/moisture testing on backfill, fill and stabilized subgrade; foundation installation observation on drilled piers; monitoring and testing of concrete materials; structural steel inspection of welded and bolted connections; and related laboratory testing. Freeport LNG Liquefaction Project

Due to continuing demand for LNG around the world and the massive abundance of natural gas in the United States, Freeport LNG is now planning to add a fourth natural gas liquefaction unit to the three trains already under construction. This expansion will allow for the export of an additional five million tons of LNG per year, increasing the total export capability of all four trains to over twenty million tons of LNG per year.

Similar to Trains 1, 2 and 3, Train 4 will utilize all-electric motors, resulting in negligible incremental emissions. The fourth liquefaction train will be constructed adjacent to the first three trains on Quintana Island, with only minimal modifications to the existing authorized facilities on the island being necessary to accommodate the fourth train. Subject to regulatory approvals, construction of Train 4 is expected to begin in 2017, with the new facilities scheduled to become operational in 2021.

TWE is proud to be a part of the Freeport LNG project team where our Freeport office is providing concrete, soils, grout and other construction materials monitoring and testing services for CZJV for the constriction of Trains 1, 2, 3 and support facilities. M & G Resins “Jumbo Project”

The TWE Corpus Christi office has served as a consultant for the Engineering, Procurement, and
Construction (EPC) contractor, Mossi and Ghisolfi Group (M&G) on the world’s largest PTA/PET plant located at the Port of Corpus Christi. The PET/PTA Facility covers approximately 410 acres along the Port of Corpus Christi’s north bank of the Inner Harbor in Nueces County, Texas, US, with an estimated total cost of over $800mil. Since Jan. 2015, TWE has provided construction materials testing services for M&G Chemicals throughout the construction phases of the project. Dubbed the “Jumbo Project”, this facility is expected to be the largest PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) vertically integrated single line in the world, and the largest PTA (Purified terephthalic acid) plant in the Americas, with operations to start at the end of Q1 2017.

TWE technicians have logged well over 20,000 hours on this site without a recordable injury, exemplifying TWE’s commitment to Safety!

Methanex Relocation Project

TWE provided Construction Materials Testing services on the Methanex Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 relocation project, a one million ton methanol plant that was relocated from Chile. A total of just over 58,000 cubic yards of structural concrete was placed. Services included: deep foundation monitoring and testing, concrete placement testing and inspection, cementitious and epoxy grout testing and inspection and soils compaction inspection and testing.

Tenaris – Bay City

Tolunay-Wong is currently providing CMT services for Turner, Beard, Mason Construction and Barni and we are 80% completed with the main Tenaris project and construction on the administrative campus will be the next phase to be completed in June or July of 2018.

The construction has created 1,700 direct jobs, and the facility will support about 600 direct employees including those in the administrative campus.

The main building encloses more than 25 acres of space indoors. The facility itself features a level of automation unusual for a facility like this and of this size.
